Fractionated coconut oil is an ideal carrier oil to safely use essential oils topically.  Because it is lightweight, it will not clog pores.  It allows you to dilute the strength of the essential oil while still reaping the benefits.  Dilute 1-2 drops of essential oil per teaspoon of coconut oil.
